Report: Cortland man pleads guilty to attempted rape of minor in Cayuga County

Domenick Krango (New York State Police)

AUBURN, N.Y. - A 60-year-old man from Cortland will spend several years in state prison after admitting to attempting to rendezvous with a 12-year-old girl for a sexual encounter.

Domenick Krango, of North Cliff Road in Cortland, was arrested in November and charged with attempted rape, attempted criminal sexual act, and attempted disseminating incident material to minors—all felonies.

On Thursday, Krango pleaded guilty in Cayuga County Court to one count of first-degree attempted criminal sex act.

Krango told the judge that he thought he was corresponding with a preteen girl named Hannah. During their conversation, the "girl" agreed to meet him at the Fingerlakes Mall to perform oral sex, the Auburn Public Citizen reported.

According to Cayuga County District Attorney Jon Budelmann, there never was a child and the person on the other end of the Internet exchange was a state trooper pretending to be a 12-year-old girl, the news report said.

Krango is expected to receive a prison sentence of at least four years. He is scheduled to be sentenced March 29.
