Weekend of Events: What to do in Cortland County?

There are always different events and activities happening at and around the Cortland County area on the weekends for people to participate and enjoy.

Here are some of the events happening this weekend in Cortland County:

First Friday

With tomorrow, December 6th, being the first Friday of the month of December, the Cultural Council of Cortland County will be holding their monthly First Friday event from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., featuring the artistic work of several local artists.

This month’s event is featuring an Elf on the Shelf Scavenger Hunt at The 1890 House Museum located on 37 Tompkins St, Cortland, NY 13045.

This month's First Friday venues include:

  • Cortland Free Library – David Beale and Friends
  • Dowd Gallery – Beyond Places in Time Exhibit
  • The 1890 House Museum – Elf on the Shelf Scavenger Hunt
  • The Gallery at the Center for the Arts – The 17th Annual Rock Garden Art Show
  • YWCA Cortland – Painting Cortland, 2019 – 2019

Village of Homer: Tree Lighting Ceremony

On Friday, December 6th, 2019, the Village of Homer will be hosting their tree lighting ceremony at the  Homer Village Green locates on 28 South Main Street Homer, NY 13077.

The event will include music, refreshments, a visit from Santa, and most importantly the tree lighting.

The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.

Holiday Photos in Santa's Winter Wonderland

The Downtown Cortland Repertory Theatre will be hosting their Holiday Photos in Santa’s Winter Wonderland event for its fifth year this weekend.

The Downtown Cortland Repertory Theatre is located on 24 Port Watson Street, Cortland, New York, 13045.

According to the Downtown Cortland Repertory Theatre, there will be refreshments, selfie-spots and activities for the kids.

Event days and hours include:

  • Saturday, December 7th-  10 a.m. to 12 p.m. (noon) and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Sunday, December 8th-  1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Prices for photos include:

  • $10 per photo setup
  • Photos can be printed onsite for an additional $10

2nd Annual Toys For Tots Community Ruck

On Sunday, December 8th, the Cortland JTM Ruck Club will be hosting their second annual Toys For Tots Community Ruck.

This is a free community event that everyone is invited to participate.

This will be guided walk through the streets of the city of Cortland to donate to a good cause. The club will be rucking their toy donations from the Cortland Local Food Market to a Toys for Tots donation drop location at Hartleys Auto and RV. The ruck will begin at 3 p.m. and is expected to take approximately two and a half hours.
