Homer Lady Trojans Lose Heartbreaking 2nd Round of Sectionals vs. Bishop Grimes in Double Overtime (Photos Included)

The #5 seeded Homer Lady Trojans lost 44-47 in double overtime against Bishop Grimes (#12 seed) in the second round of the Section III Class B Sectional Tournament.

This was Homer’s first sectional game of the tournament, as they had a first round bye.

It was close all game. Bishop Grimes had a 14-18 lead entering halftime, but Homer came back with Catherine Apker making a three pointer from the corner with three seconds left to send the game to overtime.

After two overtime periods, Bishop Grimes was able to upset Homer by three points.

“We got everything we wanted,” said Homer Head Coach CJ Kudla. “We put ourselves in such a great position. We ran a 2-3 zone on two days of practice, because we didn't want Bishop Grimes penetrating the paint and getting to their kickout game. They're too fast of a team. As much as I love playing fast-paced stuff, these girls rose to the occasion.”

“My girls played with a tremendous amount of heart,” added Kudla. “We've done so many great things. I've never been more proud of a team. Our defense was so good today. The camaraderie our defense had was incredible. I thought we could've been a bit better on man-to-man defense, but their (Bishop Grimes) defensive stance was solid today.”

Here is a score breakdown of the game:

The Lady Trojans were led by Gracie Patriarco (21 points), Catherine Apker (11 points), Sarah Sovocool (8 points), and Keira Miller (4 points).

Bishop Grimes was led by Jenna Sloan (17 points) and Natalie Musolino (14 points).

With this loss, the Lady Trojans ended their season with an overall record of 16-5.
