Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (September 11th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Monday’s events:

Varsity Volleyball: Cortland vs. Mexico

The Cortland Lady Tigers won in four sets against Mexico in order to improve to a 1-2 record Monday night. 

Cortland was led by Katie Harris (4 digs, 14 assists & 4 aces), Alizabeth West (5 kills, 4 digs & 5 aces), Nellie Lucas (6 kills & 4 blocks), and Leah Seyfried (2 kills, 6 digs & 3 aces). 

Mexico was led by Macie Guyette (3 kills, 5 digs & 2 assists) and Kaylee Halsey (2 kills, 1 block, 3 digs, 7 assists & 3 aces). 

Cortland’s next game will be a county rivalry game against Homer at Cortland high school this Wednesday (September 13th) at 6:30pm. 

Varsity Volleyball: Homer vs. Solvay

The Homer Lady Trojans defeated Solvay in four sets Monday. With this win, Homer improved to a 3-1 overall record. 

Homer was led by Mackenzie Hubbard (8 kills, 6 digs, 12 assists & 1 ace), Lilly Sorenson (5 kills, 5 digs & 4 aces), Mallory Douglass (10 digs, 1 assist & 1 ace), and Samantha Sovocool (11 assists). 

Solvay was led by Hannah Cintron (5 digs & 17 assists) and Hannah Haase (7 kills, 8 digs & 4 aces).

Up next, Homer will play on the road against their county rival Cortland at Cortland high school on Wednesday (September 13th) at 6:30pm. 

Varsity Boys Soccer: McGraw vs. Stockbridge Valley

The McGraw Eagles defeated Stockbridge Valley with a score of 2-1 on the road Monday afternoon. With this win, McGraw improved to a 2-1 record. 

McGraw’s two goals were scored by Landon Garrow. 

Stockbridge Valley was led by Evan Enslow (1 goal) and Jack Cross (1 assist). 

Up next, McGraw will play Otselic Valley on Wednesday (September 13th) on the road at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Boys Soccer: Cincinnatus vs. Waterville

The Cincinnatus Lions lost their first game of the regular season against Waterville on the road with a score of 0-4. With this loss, Cincinnatus now holds a 2-1-1 record. 

Waterville’s goals were scored by Quinnlan Mayne (2 goals), Gavin Barth (1 goal), and Tyler Green. 

Cincinnatus will play Stockbridge Valley for the second time this season this Wednesday (September 13th) on the road at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Boys Soccer: Marathon vs. Moravia

The Marathon Olympians improved to a 3-0 record after beating Moravia with a score of 2-0 at home Monday evening. 

Marathon was led by Aydan Brown (1 goal), Bryce Hartman (1 goal), Brittan Keller (1 assist), and Bode Carter (1 assist).  

Marathon’s next game is scheduled to be played on the road against Margaretville this Thursday (September 14th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Girls Soccer: Cincinnatus vs. DeRuyter

The Cincinnatus Lady Lions improved their unbeaten record to 5-0 after defeating DeRuyter with a score of 7-0 Monday afternoon. 

Cincinnatus was led by Payton Landers (2 goals), Peyton Tefft (1 goal & 1 assist), Jocelyn Turshman (1 goal & 1 assist), Cassia Schuyler (1 goal & 1 assist), Ava Larrabee (1 goal), Lucy Finch (1 goal), and Gwendolyn Coon (1 assist). 

Cincinnatus goalkeeper Sidney Glover made 2 saves in the game, while Abby Stanton recorded 6 saves for DeRuyter. 

The Lady Lions will look to keep improving their winning streak as they host Stockbridge Valley on Wednesday (September 13th) at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Soccer: McGraw vs. Stockbridge Valley

The McGraw Lady Eagles won a close home game with a score of 1-0 against Stockbridge Valley in order to improve to a 3-2 record. 

The only goal of the game was scored by McGraw’s Adrianna Stacconi (assisted by Myranda Murray). 

Up next, McGraw will play a road game against Delaware Academy on Thursday (September 14th) at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Golf: Cortland vs. Westhill & Phoenix

The Cortland Purple Tigers played Westhill and Phoenix at the Camillus Country Club Monday afternoon. Cortland ended up winning 243-254 against Phoenix, but lost to Westhill with a score of 243-212. (Reminder: lowest score in golf wins).
