Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Friday’s events:

Varsity Ice Hockey: Cortland-Homer vs. CBA Albany (Holiday Tournament Consolation Game)

The Cortland-Homer Golden Eagles won 8-4 against CBA Albany at the JM McDonald's Sports Complex Holiday Tournament’s consolation game.

Cortland-Homer was led by Gabe O’Connor (4 goal & 1 assist), Brady Coffin (3 assists), Bodey McGrath (1 assist), Cooper Swartz (1 assist) Preston Bowman (2 goals & 1 assist), Liam O’Connor (1 goal), Declan Vail (1 assist), Brendan Andrews (1 goal), and Jack Medeiros (29 saves). 

Note: CBA Albany’s stats were not reported by the time this article was written. 

Cortland-Homer will now look forward to hosting Auburn at the JM McDonald's Sports Complex on Thursday (January 4th) at 7pm.

The Homer Trojans defeated county rival Cortland (Purple Tigers) in the championship game of this year’s Tom Neugebauer holiday tournament at Cortland junior-senior high school Friday night. 

In the final minutes of Homer’s win, this dunk from Kaden Durham propelled them to a win:

Up next, Homer will play on the road against Skaneateles on Thursday (January 4th) at 6:30pm, while Cortland will travel to play Carthage on Friday (January 5th) at 7pm.

The Marathon Olympians won 56-36 against Groton in the consolation game of the Tom Neugebauer holiday tournament at Cortland junior-senior high school Friday evening.

Marathon’s next game will be played on Friday (January 5th) on the road against Spencer-Van Etten at 7:45pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. Otselic Valley (Fabius-Pompey Holiday Tournament)

The Cincinnatus Lions lost 44-61 in the consolation game of the Fabius-Pompey Holiday Tournament on Friday. 

Cincinnatus was led by Jack Stafford (11 points), Trevor Shevalier (10 points), and Canden Stafford (10 points). 

Otselic Valley was led by Braeden Davis (35 points) and Cole Warren (9 points). 

Up next, Cincinnatus will take on Hamilton on the road on Tuesday (January 2nd) at 7pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Cortland vs. Moravia (Tom Neugebauer Holiday Tournament Championship Game)

The Cortland Lady Tigers won 41-34 against Moravia in the championship round of the Cortland Holiday Tournament on Friday.

Varsity Girls Basketball: McGraw vs. Fabius-Pompey (Fabius-Pompey Holiday Tournament Championship Game)

The McGraw Lady Eagles lost 28-43 against Fabius-Pompey in the championship round of the Fabius-Pompey Holiday Tournament.

McGraw was led by Heather Magee (9 points), Hannah Wilson (6 points), and Lexi McCall (6 points). 

Fabius-Pompey was led by Carlena Wallace (22 points) and Parker Marshal (10 points). 

McGraw is now scheduled to play on the road against Madison on Thursday (January 4th) at 6pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. Otselic Valley (Fabius-Pompey Holiday Tournament Consolation Game)

The Cincinnatus Lady Lions defeated Otselic Valley in the consolation game of the Fabius-Pompey Holiday Tournament on Friday. 

Cincinnatus was led by Cortney Scutt (21 points), Sidney Glover (15 points), and Rachael Standish (4 points). 

Otselic Valley was led by Miranda Hackett (9 points), Riley Bartlett (8 points), and Gracie Rooker (6 points). 

Cincinnatus’ next game will be played at home against Otselic Valley on Thursday (January 4th) at 5:30pm. 

Varsity Wrestling: Homer & Marathon vs. Multiple Teams (Windsor Christmas Tournament)

The Homer and Marathon wrestling teams competed at the Windsor Christmas Tournament on Thursday and Friday (December 28th & 29th)

A total of 38 teams scored points in the tournament. Homer placed 28th overall, while Marathon placed 36th overall.

Varsity Wrestling: Cortland  vs. Multiple Teams (Kenneth Haines Memorial Tournament)

The Cortland Purple Tigers participated in the Kenneth Haines Memorial Tournament at SUNY Oswego over the weekend.
According to Cortland head coach Clint Morse,  5 wrestlers from Cortland participated in the tournament.
