Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (January 30th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Tuesday’s events:

Varsity Girls Volleyball: Cincinnatus vs. Brookfield

The Cincinnatus Lady Lions improved to an overall record of 14-2 after defeating Brookfield in four sets. 

Cincinnatus was led by Allyson St. Germain (4 kills, 2 digs, 19 assists & 7 aces), Lucy Finch (7 kills), Payton Gerrard (1 kill, 4 digs, 1 assist & 2 aces), Madelyn Pittsley (12 kills), Shailynn Davis (1 digs), Kaylee Brenchley (5 kills & 2 assists), and Cassia Schuyler (2 kills, 8 digs & 7 aces).

Cincinnatus’ next match will be played on the road against Onondaga this Friday (February 2nd) at 7pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Cortland vs. Chittenango

The No.9 state ranked Cortland Lady Tigers defeated Chittenango with a score of 70-22 Tuesday night. With this result, Cortland improved to a 14-1 record. 

Cortland was led by Kendall Mack (16 points), Valerosa Gambitta (16 points), Claire Turner (12 points), Lillian Tinker (8 points), Aubree Larkin (8 points), Lily Yang (5 points), Zee-Anna Sweat-Rice (3 points), and Kartyr Hubbard (2 points).

Chittenango was led by Abby Scheidelman (11 points), Alivia Cavotta (4 points), Persephone Rohrer (2 points), Gabrielle Dawkins (2 points), Isabelle Damon (2 points), and Michele LaTour (1 point). 

Up next, Cortland will play Westhill on the road this Thursday (February 1st) at 6:30pm.

The Homer Lady Trojans fell to an overall record of 4-12 after losing to Westhill with a score of 46-37. 

Homer was led by Lauren Franco (12 points), Anya Gofkowski (12 points), Elia Spanbauer (7 points), Elizabeth McCloy (5 points), and Isabelle Small (1 point).

Westhill was led by Izzy Young (23 points), Eva Tarolli (8 points), Rosie Mahoney (5 points), Kara Rosenberger (4 points), Reagan Rogers (3 points), Sophia Lasher (2 points), and Nora Fitzgerald (1 point).

Homer’s next game will be played on the road against Mexico this Friday (February 2nd) at 6:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Marathon vs. Odessa Montour Central

The Marathon Lady Olympians won 59-13 against Odessa Montour Central on the road, improving to an overall record of 10-4. 

Marathon was led by Addison Oram (16 points), Catherine Newkirk (15 points), Audrey Ensign (12 points), Abby Ensign (7 points), Anna Hoyt (3 points), Megan Howard (2 points), Marissa Allen (2 points), and Kendre Euson (2 points). 

Odessa Montour Central was led by Everly Zinger (8 points), Leah Antes (2 points), Keyonna Garrison (2 points), and Gina Gavich (1 point). 

Marathon is now scheduled to play against Groton at Groton high school this Friday (February 2nd) at 6:45pm.

The Cortland Purple Tigers lost against Chittenango with a score of 91-38, falling to an overall record of 4-12. 

Cortland was led by Antonio Terrazas (9 points), Tyler Thomas (6 points), Jaxson Gambitta (6 points), Cal Albright (5 points), Zachary Muir (3 points), Owen Michales (3 points), Caden Albright (2 points), Logan Toomey (2 points), and Ethan Johnson (2 points). 

Chittenango was led by Ryan Moesch (30 points), Brendon Barnard (18 points), Bernardo Bortovski (8 points), Jacob Bell (6 points), Jack Lamphere (5 points), Jacob Cheek (4 points), Holden Taylor (4 points), Hunter Taylor (4 points), Emerson Brewster (3 points), Wesley Chandler (3 points), David Oyewole (2 points), Drew Thomas (2 points), and Kyle Wehrlin (2 points). 

Cortland’s next game will be played at Cortland junior-senior high school on Thursday (February 1st) against Westhill. Tip off is at 6:45pm.

Homer was led by Max Franco (16 points), Wyatt Wilbur (9 points), Mitchell Earle (9 points), Kaden Durham (5 points), and Tyler VanEtten (3 points).

Westhill was led by Kam Langdon (21 points), Eli Prince (18 points), Dominic Zawadzki (6 points), Hasan Altheblah (3 points), Eli Welch (3 points), and Jack Hayes (1 point). 

Homer is now scheduled to host Mexico at Homer high school on Thursday (February 1st) at 7:15pm.

The Marathon Olympians won a tight game against Odessa Montour Central with a score of 64-63 at Marathon high school Tuesday night. 

Marathon was led by Bryce Hartman (20 points), Jacob Byron (16 points), Camdyn Kashuba (13 points), Bode Carter (5 points), Austin Poth (5 points), Zachary Birdsall (3 points), and Colton Oram (2 points).

Odessa Montour Central was led by Bradley Gillis (26 points), Tyler Malnoske (15 points), David Patterson (9 points), Brady Cannon (6 points), Gunner Herrmann (6 points), and Benjamin Heichel (1 point). 

Up next, Marathon will host Groton at Marathon high school this Friday (February 2nd) at 7:15pm.

Varsity Bowling: Homer vs. Weedsport

The Homer boys and girls bowling teams competed against Weedsport Tuesday evening.

The Homer boys’ team lost with a team score of 5-2; while the Homer girls’ team won 7-0.
