Cortland County Sheriff’s Office gives update on fatal car crash

On December 27th, 2023, at approximately 3:53 AM, Officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a one car vehicle crash located on Stillwell Road in the Town of Solon. Through investigation it was determined that the vehicle was occupied by two occupants and was traveling north on Stillwell when the operator of the vehicle lost control of the vehicle, leaving the roadway, striking a tree. As a result of the crash, one occupant sustained life ending injuries on-scene and the other occupant was taken to Upstate Medical Center with injuries and later released. The names of the occupants were not released during the first News Release due to pending identification and notification of the next of kin.

While furthering the above Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash it has been determined that Isaac D. Faircloth was an occupant of the vehicle. On January 30th, 2024, after making notification to the next of kin, the Cortland County Sheriff’s office has positively identified the occupant that sustained life threatening injuries in this Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash as being Christa M. Delaney.

This is still an ongoing investigation and we are still seeking the Public’s Assistance for any information regarding the whereabouts of Isaac Faircloth and Christa Delaney in the early morning hours of December 27th, 2023 from approximately 1:00 AM to 3:53 AM.  Mr. Faircloth and Christa Delaney where in a red 2015 Nissan Sentra at the time of the Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash.  They are also believed to have been in the area of the City of Cortland, Town of Cortlandville, Village of McGraw and Town of Solon during this time period.  We are looking for any information or video footage that would assist in this investigation.

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the Citizens that it is not uncommon for Law Enforcement to withhold a subject’s identity until that identity has been verified by all means and the next of kin has been properly notified.
