A woman who is being accused of murder in Cortland County pleaded not guilty in court on Tuesday.

Ariela Thran, 32, of Granby (Oswego County), was arrested on Jan. 6 in connection to the murder of county resident Patricia Allison Halverson. Halverson was found dead on Jan. 3 outside her residence at Wildman Road in the town of Solon.

Thran has been charged with second-degree murder, a Class A-II Felony.

During Thran’s arraignment on Tuesday, county judge David Alexander set a motion date of March 12 for the defense. Response from the county district attorney’s office is set for April 12.

Thran is currently being held at Cortland County Jail and has bail set at $50,000 cash, $1 million bond, or a $10 million partially-secured bond with 10% down.

Defense attorney Kevin Jones requested bail be cut down to $25,000 cash and a $500,000 bond, noting that Thran has no prior criminal record and that her “financial circumstances” be taken into consideration by the court.

District attorney Patrick Perfetti recommended that the bail remain the same, due to the nature of Thran’s charges and the “risk of flight.”

Thran is scheduled to appear in county court at 1 p.m. March 12 for a conference on her case. Jones requested the conference, adding he expects that more information on the case is “forthcoming.”

Perfetti, who had no objection to scheduling a conference, said “there is more information (and discoveries) forthcoming” for the case.
