Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (February 10th)

Varsity Girls Basketball: Marathon vs. Greene Central

The Marathon Lady Olympians celebrated senior night this past Saturday (February 10th) at Marathon high school. 

Five seniors (Marissa Allen, Abby Ensign, Kendre Euson, Megan Howard & Anna Hoyt) were celebrated at Saturday’s game.

According to Marathon’s athletic calendar, this was their last game of the regular season. There will be a seeding meeting for the upcoming Section IV playoff tournaments this Wednesday (February 14th)

Varsity Girls Basketball: Homer vs. Oneonta

The Homer girls basketball team lost to Oneonta with a score of 49-30 on Saturday. With this loss, Homer has fallen to an overall record of 4-15. 

Homer was led by Anya Gofkowski (13 points), Lauren Franco (7 points), Elia Spanbauer (5 points), Elizabeth McCloy (3 points), and Brayden Partigianoni (2 points).

Note: Oneonta’s stats were not made available by the time this article was written. 

Homer’s next game will be played on the road against Oneida this Friday (February 16th) at 6:30pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. Poland

The Cincinnatus Lions fell to an overall record of 9-10 after losing to Poland on the road with a score of 52-35. 

Cincinnatus was led by Canden Stafford (15 points), Jack Stafford (9 points), Koda Temple (5 points), John Schuyler (4 points), and Trevor Shevalier (2 points).

Poland was led by Carter Cookinham (22 points), Michael Anderson (12 points), Kaiden Stemmer (6 points), Seth Miller-Huckabone (6 points), Aidan Alsheimer (3 points), Daetyn Jones (2 points), and Kyle Grimaldi (1 points).

Cincinnatus is now scheduled to play Poland once more tonight (February 12th) at Cincinnatus high school. Tip off is at 7pm. 

Varsity Wrestling: Cortland & Homer vs. Multiple Teams (Section III Division II Championships)

Cortland’s Avery Canzano (left) & Wyatt Tinker (right) qualified for the New York State Wrestling Tournament.

Both the Cortland and Homer wrestling teams competed in the Section III Division II Championships on Saturday.

Cortland entered two wrestlers (Avery Canzano & Wyatt Tinker) in the tournament. 

Homer entered a total of seven wrestlers (Patrick Maslin, Hunter Lines, Dominic Burlingame, Colin Murphy, Christopher Slade, Owen Burhans & Jack Brown)  in the tournament.

Varsity Wrestling: Marathon vs. Multiple Teams (Section IV Division II Championships)

The Marathon Olympians competed in the Section IV Division II Championships on Saturday. 

Both Braydon Homer and Dawsyn Cole placed 4th at their respective weight classes. 

Braydon Homer competed in the 131-pound class, while Dawsyn Cole competed in the 190-pound weight class.
