Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (April 22nd); Caden Albright reaches 100th career hit milestone

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Monday’s events:

Varsity Baseball: Cortland vs. Jamesville-Dewitt

The Cortland Purple Tigers lost against Jamesville-Dewitt with a score of 3-1, making them fall to an overall record of 7-3. 

Even with the loss, Cortland was able to celebrate junior Caden Albright, as he reached the 100 career hits milestone in the game. 

Throughout the game, Cortland was led by Caden Albright (2 hits & 1 RBI), Cal Albright (1 run & 1 hit), Owen Johnson (1 hit & 3 strikeouts thrown), Ethan Johnson (1 hit), Danny Jackson (1 hit), and Zach Muir (6 strikeouts thrown). 

Jamesville-Dewitt was led by Aidan McGuire (1 run & 1 hit), Eamon Giblin (1 run & 1 hit), Luke VanMarter (1 run & 1 hit), Aaron Ko (2 hits & 1 RBI), Ryan Walker (1 hit, 1 RBI & 1 strikeout thrown), Luke VanMarter (5 strikeouts thrown), and Samuel Ashe (1 strikeout thrown). 

Cortland’s next game will be played at the “PBR Diamond Series” this upcoming Thursday (April 25th) against Adirondack. The game will be played at the Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex at 2:45pm. 

Varsity Baseball: Marathon vs. Newark Valley

The Marathon Olympians won 7-6 against Newark Valley on Monday. With this win, Marathon improved to an overall record of 2-3. 

Marathon was led by Camdyn Kashuba (2 runs), Zachary Birdsall (1 run & 7 strikeouts), Blake Birdsall (2 hits, 2 RBI’s & 2 strikeouts thrown), Barrett Trabucco (1 run & 1 hit), Tucker Trabucco (1 run & 1 hit), Daniel Merihew (1 RBI), Nash Coleman (1 RBI), Colton Oram (1 run), Elijah Ticknor (1 hit & 1 RBI), and Gabriel Spizzirri (1 run & 1 hit). 

Marathon are scheduled to play against Moravia at Marathon high school today (April 23rd) at 2pm. The Cortland Voice will have a recap on the game available on our website tomorrow (April 24th). 

Varsity Baseball: Homer vs. East Syracuse Minoa

The Homer Trojans are now on a three game winning streak after beating East Syracuse Minoa at the Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex on Monday (April 22nd). Homer won the game with a score of 6-2.

Up next, Homer is scheduled to take on Solvay at the Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex in Cortlandville this Wednesday (April 24th) at 1pm. 

Varsity Softball: Marathon vs. Newark Valley

The Marathon Lady Olympians improved to a 3-5 record after beating Newark Valley with a score of 19-18. 

Marathon was led by Kayla Wood (2 runs, 4 hits & 2 RBI’s), Melodie Sutton (3 runs, 2 hits & 2 RBI’s), Izzy Conklin (4 runs, 2 hits & 1 RBI), Bonnie-Jane Kinsman (1 run & 2 hits), Autumn Young (2 runs, 1 hit & 2 RBI’s), Cassie Forrest (2 runs, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Marissa Allen (2 runs, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Jaymisen Conklin (1 run & 1 hit), and Delaney Reilly (2 runs & 1 RBI).

The Cortland Lady Tigers have fallen to an overall record of 2-2 after losing to Skaneateles with a score of 10-6. 

Cortland was led by Brenna Hogan (1 run, 1 hit, 1 RBI & 14 strikeouts thrown), Madalyn Thompson (3 runs & 1 hit), Sophie Mayer (2 hits & 3 RBI’s), Abigail Romans (1 run & 2 hits), Claire Turner (1 hit & 1 RBI), Danica Peck (1 run), Lauren Mott (1 hit), and Gracie-Jo Homza (1 hit).

Varsity Track & Field: Marathon vs. Odessa-Montour & Southern Cayuga

The Marathon Olympians competed against Odessa-Montour & Southern Cayuga Monday afternoon at Marathon’s Appleby Elementary School.
