Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (September 27th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Wednesday’s events:

Varsity Girls Soccer: Cortland vs. Chittenango

The Cortland Lady Tigers won 1-0 against Chittenango Wednesday evening in order to improve to a 5-6 record. 

Cortland was led by Danica Peck (1 goal), Zoe Timmerman (1 assist), and Lauren Mott (8 saves). 

Chittenango goalkeeper Rebecca Baldwin made 4 saves in the game. 

Up next, Cortland will play on the road against Marcellus on Friday (September 29th) at 7pm.

Varsity Girls Soccer: Cincinnatus vs. Whitney Point

The Cincinnatus Lady Lions shutout Whitney Point 11-0 Wednesday evening on the road in order to improve their unbeaten record to 10-0. 

According to the NYSSCOGS NYS Girls Soccer State Rankings, Cincinnatus is currently ranked third in Class D.

Cincinnatus was led by Jocelyn Turshman (2 goals & 3 assists), Cassia Schuyler (2 goals & 2 assists), Ava Larrabee (2 goals & 2 assists), Payton Gerrard (2 goals), Isabella Cosimo (1 goal), Neveah Billings (1 goal), Peyton Stith (1 goal), Emma Finch (1 assist), and Madelyn Pittsley (1 assist). 

The Lady Lions will look to keep their unbeaten streak going on Friday (September 29th), as they play on the road against Christian Brothers Academy at 5:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Soccer: Homer vs. Westhill

The Homer Lady Trojans lost a road game against Westhill on Wednesday with a score of 1-3. With this loss, Homer now holds a 3-6-1. 

Homer was led by Mikayla Smith (1 goal) and Alex Kellaway (14 saves). 

Westhill was led by Delaney Goode (1 goal), Kara Rosenberger (1 goal), Siena Jetter (1 goal), Rosie Mahoney (1 assist), Bella Gallardo (1 assist), Hannah Goodness (1 assist), Ava Antoine  (3 saves), and Taylor Falcone (1 save). 

Homer is now scheduled to play on the road against Carthage on Saturday (September 30th) at 11am. 

Varsity Boys Soccer: Cortland vs. Chittenango

The Cortland Purple Tigers lost a close game against Chittenango with a score of 0-2. With this loss, Cortland has fallen to an overall record of 5-6.

Cortland’s next game will be played at Cortland high school this upcoming Saturday (September 30th) against LaFayette. According to the Cortland high school athletics calendar, the game is scheduled for a 10:30am start. 

Varsity Boys Soccer: Homer vs. Westhill

The Homer Trojans fell to an overall record of 2-7 after losing a home game to Westhill with a score of 0-3. 

Homer goalie Levi Guay recorded a total of 15 saves in the game. 

Westhill was led by Eric Holstein (2 goals & 1 assist) and Calvin Petrone (1 goal). 

Homer’s next game will be played on the road against Solvay on Monday (October 2nd) at 5pm. 

Varsity Field Hockey: Cortland vs. Port Byron

The Cortland Lady Tigers fell to an 0-7 record after losing to Port Byron 0-5 Wednesday night. 

Cortland goalie Abby Clay made a total of 9 saves in the game. 

Port Byron was led by Raelee McDonald (2 goals & 1 assist), Ella Jorgensen (2 goals), Abby McKay (3 assists), Kylee Cordway (1 goal), Lillian Berkey (1 assist), and Katelyn Ware (1 save). 

Up next, Cortland will play a road game against Cato-Meridian on Friday (September 29th) at 6:30pm. 

Varsity Golf: Cortland vs. Mexico

The Cortland Purple Tigers won 223-232 against Mexico at the Emerald Crest Golf Course Wednesday afternoon. (Reminder: lowest score in golf wins).

Varsity Cross Country: Homer vs. Christian Brothers Academy (CBA)

The Homer Trojans competed in a dual meet against Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) at Jordan-Elbridge High School on Wednesday.

The Homer boys team lost with a team result of 37-20; while the Homer girls team lost with a team result of 29-26. (Reminder: lowest score in cross country wins).

  • Aaron O’Brien placed 7th overall (Time - 21:57.9)

  • Lydia Andre placed 9th overall (Time - 25:33.3)
