1 – Grand jury indicts Rhode Island resident in fatal stabbing outside Cortland bar

Rhode Island man indicted in Cortland stabbing — A Cortland County grand jury has served up an indictment against Mark Dill, a Rhode Island resident accused of fatally stabbing a man outside a Cortland bar late last year.

2 – Family keeps positive outlook in Homer girl's recovery

Homer girl severely injured in boating accident 'gaining strength' — Family members of an 8-year-old girl who was injured badly in a boating accident on Skaneateles Lake earlier this month say her condition is improving. Kaelynne Driscoll, of Homer, lost an arm and a leg and suffered severe head trauma in the July 6 accident, according to the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office.

3 – Farewell: Carl Haynes to step down as TC3 president

TC'3 longest-serving president announces retirement — Tompkins Cortland Community College President Carl Haynes will retire on August 31, 2017. Haynes, the longest-serving president in the college’s history, told the college community of his intentions earlier this week.

4 – Dryden man gets 12-year prison sentence

Horton sentencing: 12 years total for Dryden rape, other charges — A Dryden man convicted of rape in June was sentenced to a total of 12 years in prison Friday morning — five years on one set of charges and seven on another that will be served back-to-back.

5 – Living with Parkinson's primary focus of SUNY Cortland professor's research

SUNY Cortland research takes aim at Parkinson's disease — SUNY Cortland Professor of Kinesiology Jeffrey Bauer knows what Parkinson’s disease looks like: shaking hands, a shuffling walk, soft speech. He sees the symptoms in his 85-year-old father, who was diagnosed with the progressive movement disorder five years ago. It's for both personal and professional reasons that he’s leading a research team comprising four colleagues and assisted by several SUNY Cortland students.

6 – Charges filed in burglary of a residence in Virgil

Two charged in burglary of Virgil home — The Cortland County Sheriff's Office has charged two people in connection with a burglary at a home in the town of Virgil following a three-month investigation.

7 – Man sentenced in vehicular death of McGraw girl

A dozen officers called to courthouse after Groton manslaughter sentencing — Naeem Clark, 20, was sentenced to one to three years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree manslaughter in June. Brianna D. Copes, 18, died instantly in the crash, officials said.

8 – Ithaca enacts tougher measures to prevent swimming in gorges

The real reason behind Ithaca's proposed ban on gorge swimming — On Wednesday, the City of Ithaca moved toward banning people from the waters in its natural areas — which is a bit odd, since such a ban already technically exists.

9 – New charges against Cortland woman who stole from Ithaca employer

Cortland woman pleads guilty to new charges while serving sentence for Ithaca larceny — A woman currently serving a jail sentence for a previous charge appeared in court Tuesday afternoon for another series of charges that were also reduced in a plea deal.

10 – Too slow: Man charged with DWI for going 34 mph on I-81

Police: Solvay man drove 30 mph below speed limit, charged with DWI in Homer — An Onondaga County man was arrested Monday following a traffic stop on I-81 in Homer, state police said.
